I'm sure this must have been dealt with elsewhere but my sons HP Pavilion g6 originally running "Win 8.1 and inadvertently updated to "Win 10" will no longer boot up. Instead, choosing to infinitely attempt to run the "Preparing Automatic Repair" option - However this always fails.

As a sub-note, all the help pages I have visited repeatedly suggest going into "Advanced Options" or "Safe Mode" unfortunately none of what I can find deal with the "non boot problem". I suspect I require some sort of generic boot disc or USB held program to unlock this problem???

Any ideas welcome - Sorry so long.

After pressing the power button, immediately press the esc key until the Startup Menu opens. Begin a System Recovery by pressing F11. You will probably have to do a reset.

    Morning Tim

I've tried that one, but after the F11 prompt the machine asks me to "Please wait" - then states "Your PC ran into a problem. We'll restart for you" and then moves onto attempting an "Automatic repair" that completely fails and states a "BAD POOL HEADER" and back to restart.

Just can't break the loop....no reset possible.

    Thanks Imandy

I can access the boot menu & option 6 followed by F11 - it attempts a start up but just loops endlessly.

I have had a look through the "Reset" options suggested in digitalcitizen and they might be helpful if I could find a way of booting the Operating System. However I have no boot-disk associated with what was originally W8.1 or the upgraded W10.

I'm not sure but I gather such problems can likely occur after W10 upgrade and that graphics drivers can be the problem? This PC had worked perfectly until shortly after upgrade.

    Cheers Eldon

Unless I'm missing something - As I don't have an active/loadable version of Win 10 I can't see how I'm meant to "Repair or Replace" apart from which originally the PC/Laptop came with Win 8 preinstalled.

As a footnote, I just ran Linux Mint 18 as a "Live Disc" and all the hardware seemed to run fine, although I have not attempted to install Mint as yet but ultimately if no one can work out how I get windows to boot that might be the end result :0

Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

    Thanks for your suggestions Guys

I seem to have tried every combination armed with the Media Creation Tool and the universal copy of Windows 10 on a USB and I still can not get the PC to attempt to load any part of Windows.......As a matter of fact I tabbed down to the Memory test utility 0f which there are 15 passes to be made. Having attempted 3 times to run this tool, each time it has got to the "4th" test pass she sticks at around 60-70% and goes no further but never states that a problem has been found.........Puzzled???
