Win2000 SP4 and sfc /scannow

I'm trying to run SFC on a Win2000 SP4 computer and it continually prompts for the CD. I have the CD in the drive but I have to keep clicking 'retry' over and over and over. It is a Win2000 SP4 disc. I found this at the MSKB:

But it applies to XP and SFC (if you're running XPH and you're prompted to insert the XPP disc, this link tells you how to fix it). I know I read somewhere that there's a registry fix; you can modify a certain registry key to point SFC to the correct drive/directory for SFC if you're continually prompted for the CD..... First, if it was under any controlset, its under currentcontrolset, and without knowing the machine's current registry details, there is no way to know which controlset that is mirroring.


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup is the path.

SourcePath
ServicePackSourcePath are the two values in question, make sure they point to the correct places. Note, i386 directory is implied.

The volume label of the CD that Win2k was installed with was different than the volume label of the CD I was using. As soon as I changed the reg key to match the CD's label, it worked perfectly smooth. Thanks again!

(Yes, I'll remember to change the key back to what it was so it matches the original install CD )

BTW- is it the same reg key for XP?

 

Yes. Not for Vista though.
