Thanks for the malware advice - AVAST detected viruses and pulled files with identified viruses and some system files which doesn't have any viruses identified -- all are in the virus chest.

After it pulled all the files - it fixed the problems with a disappearing cursor (not recognizing the current window) and I had to constantly reclick to get back onto a window to type or scroll.

I have an old laptop running win2000, and I have the recovery disks.

I'm thinking that it may be a good idea to reformat -- but I have a lot of Hotfixes.

    1) Any quick way of downloading the Hotfixes?

    2) A dumb question - there isn't a problem with downloading with the protection software enabled, right?

    I'd appreciate your kind advice.:confused

If you referring to "Windows Updates" then no, the only quick way is to have a broadband connection and download them via WU or AU.

Are you asking if it's ok to download with your antivirus or antispy programs enabled? If so, then yes it's fine.
