Win2k ate my hard drive :(

ok, using an external usb caddy

now; disk A inside caddy

swapped hard drives

now; disk B inside caddy

restarted windows 2000 (sp4)

scan disk starts during reboot

loads of mad text scrolling

windows starts with over 60G of disk B missing

er, help¿?

 

ok, just running a util....

so far it is recovering files that WERE NOT

deleted by win2k


i am waiting to see if the reveovery process

will 'catch' the deleted files too


the util doesn't write to the hard drive being

tested nor has any data been written to the

drive since this er, little mayhap lets say

some other stuff i didnt mention before...


now; disk B has loads of "what appear to be

windows generated files" on the drive in a

folder called "found.000"


inside this folder are more folders called "dir0000.chk,

dir0001.chk etc" and files with the same extention ".chk"

inside these folders




the test with software didnt recover the original

files

After trying the "recover" option in th R-Studio Data Recovery util

i ran a "scan" of the drive, disk B


The scan has just finished


Now when I open the Drive list in the software, new (or the old)

partitions and folder names appear (did i make win2k throw up¿?)


The recover option works again but this time it is recovering all

of the files that were lost before (some 60G)


Problem sorted




Havn't tried the before mentioned software

all of the files are visible, their size, the folder stucture,
everything except the files are UN-UNREADABLE!!!!!!!!!!
