WIN32 keeps failing causing internet failure

I have run through all the stages in the READ AND RUN THROUGH ME FIRST thread.

Whilst using the internet I keep on getting a series of pop ups followed by an error message saying that
Generic Host Process for WIN32 Services has failed and probably needs to close. As soon as this happens the internet drops and I cannot reconnect until I restart the computer.
It also seems to mess up Windows Media Player both in appearance and it removes the sound. It also does not allow me to play mp3's, WM files etc.
After having the same problem, my girlfriend reported that the offline game that she began to play after a restart had also had all the sound settings turned to zero. She also reports that the game crashes alot which may or may not be related; it is a high end game graphically.

I tried to include a HJthis log, a runkeys.txt and a newfiles.txt in this post and an Activescan.txt, a Counterspy report, a bdscan report and a AIDA32 report as additional posts, however since I originally posted in the Malware section it won't let me repost so please follow this thread to access them:

n.b. I had to run BITDEFENDER and PANDA ACTIVE SCAN in normal mode, PANDA found 2 things; a piece of spyware and a hacking vulnerablility. I could not fully update Spybot because this seemed to freeze my system.

I hope that you can help.
    Thanks.

    Got your xp disk handy?
Start / run / type "sfc /scannow" without qoutes and be ready to insert the disk ...run it more than once. Report back.

I'm having this exact same problem, down to the internet failure and mp3's not working. I'm going to try to find my XP disk, but I'm not sure if I have one as my computer came with it preinstalled.

No XP disk I'm afraid ... it's one of these lovely new purchases where they don't actually give you the disk.

I can restore the computer to the way it was when I purchased it, which will restore XP ... but I am hoping to avoid this.

Do you have an HP printer or scanner on the computer?

As for me, not currently, though as recently as May I did.

Make sure you have uninstalled all the HP software if you don't use them anymore.

If you have either of the two installed, turn off the computer, disconnect the hardware in question, reboot the PC, and reinstall the HP devices one at a time. See if that stops the popups.

It was a really old HP printer, so it didn't have any software packages that I know of (I just plug it into the back of the computer as needed). Is this in some way generating the problem?

In your case I'm not sure. You really haven't done any spyware scans to rule that out. I would do that first and see what you find and if it solves the problem

I would unhook the printer, look in Add/Remove programs and uninstall any of the HP printer software if installed.

I did all the spyware scans before coming to the forum, none of them eliminated the problem. The printer isn't hooked up currently, but I'll look for any HP Printer Software and remove it.

No luck with that, there weren't any installed. Should I post a HiJack This log?

I do not have an HP printer or scanner but I do have a Samsung.

    So anyone have any thoughts?

I'm currently experiencing this problem, too. One problem, I cannot ever recall having a HP printer or scanner hooked up. We had a series of Lexmarks and are currently now using a Canon i560 and a Canon LiDE scanner.

I do have a HP t134a, and I did find HP printer and scanner drivers (they were inactive) I've removed them and will post what happens in coming days.

One further thing; I have a LAN set up with my brother's computer, and whilst trying to d/load a BF2 patch last night, we had to restart the computer 5 times because we kept getting these messages. Eventually we just gave up. Would the LAN - and the fact that the other computer has no anti-virus/spyware protection - have anything to do with it?
