I have Windows 7 64 bit and have gotten the virus and have no idea how to get rid of it. I understand I will need to delete some info from the registry but need someone to help me through it.

I have AVG 2012 and Hitman Pro on my computer. I also have Rogue Killer and have attached the file from it.

I am getting the AVG pop up about every 30 seconds telling me I have this virus and it's referencing the services.exe file in the System32 folder.

I have read the other threads about this but must not be understanding because I'm not getting rid of it.

I REALLY appreciate any help you can give me!!!

Rescan with HitmanPro, when it finds services.exe - Virus, allow it to Replace by clicking the down arrow next to the detection and choosing Replace.
Choose to Delete these files if they are detected:

    • C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini
      C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
    Ignore all other detections.
    Afterwards, click the Next button.
HitmanPro may want to reboot the PC in order for the changes to take affect, please do so.

Now rescan with both RogueKiller and Hitman and attach those logs as well.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

I have tried exactly what you said several time but every time it tells me the replace failed.

Disable any AV software you have and if that doesn't work, try it in safe mode.

    TIm,

I tried first after disabling my AVG and then in Safe mode. In both cases when I try to do the replace on the services.exe file I get a Delete Failed both times.

I don't think anything is different but I am attached new files from RK and Hitman hoping that will help you.

I am SOOOO frustrated. I can't believe this thing won't go away.

Here is the Hitman file after the replacement fails.

I'm not sure if it's any different but thought possibly it could help.

Thanks for all you are doing to help!!!!!

Since you haven't run MGTools, I need you to:

Boot to System Recovery Options and run FRST again.
Type the below bolded text in the edit box after "Search:".
    services.exe
    Then click the Search button.
It will make a log (Search.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this log to your next reply.

Are you sure you hit "search"? Try it again as this is the normal log, not the result of a search.

    SOO sorry about that.

This should be the correct file.

Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST.exe on your flash drive.
Now reboot back into the System Recovery Options as you did previously.
Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (
    See how to attach
    )

Now boot into normal Windows can continue with the below.
    Running MGTools.

Please run CCLeaner and clean out your temp folders.

    Download OTL to your desktop.

Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
    • Copy and Paste the following code into the Custom Scans/Fixes textbox. Do not include the word Code
    Code:
    :processes
    :killallprocesses
    :files
    C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini
    C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
    :commands
    [PURITY]
    [EMPTYTEMP]
    [RESETHOSTS]
    [REBOOT]

    • Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
    • Click the OK button.
    • OTL may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot. Just close notepad and attach this log form OTL to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

    Tim,

I just logged onto that machine to check something and my virus is gone.

No pop-ups from AVG telling me about it like I was getting. I also ran Hitman Pro and all that found was 1 tracking cookie.

If there are things I should be doing in the future to keep this thing running well, I'm all ears.

I can't believe you guys helped me clean this for nothing. AVG would have charged me $150.

    Thank you SOOOO much!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife owns a bakery so if you give me your address I will send you some cookies. :)

Ummmm....me like cookies!! LOL. ( I will send you a Private Message - though you won't be able to reply to it).

    Your logs look good.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link
Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0
