My current OS is Win 7 Pro. With MS discontinuing security updates in Jan., do I need to upgrade to Win. 10, which I'd rather not do, or is Comodo antivirus and firewall and other free malware programs I have installed such as Malwarebytes adequate protection? I have my bank and brokage accounts installed.

This has probably been covered many times here but I can't seem to get the search feature to work.

You can keep using Windows 7 for as long as you like. However, you will not receive any more updates, namely bug fixes and security patches, after January 2020. Antivirus, firewall, and anti-malware apps will protect your PC from some problems but not from others. The risk is all yours.

If you don't like Win 10 you could upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1 and you get updates.

Thanx. Not sure what to do...How is Windows 8 or 8.1 vs. 7? Is there much difference from the user's standpoint?

Words this morning from Woody Leonhard on his weekly newsletter. (Google him; he has written multiple Windows for Dummies books).
My husband and I are very safe surfers. We've never used Internet Explorer, don't download anything except from a few sites, (MajorGeeks is on the short trusted list) have ad blockers so we can't accidentally click on maladvertising and get infected, and keep Malwarebytes paid up to date.

I also make images every 4 to 6 weeks. If I suspect something on a computer, it is easy to restore the newest image. I've restored an image on every computer in the house at one time or another because of bad patches or a program that seemed impossible to remove.

Windows 8.1 has a app screen and a desktop screen which just looks like windows 7. Here are the screenshots of windows 8.1 win-8.1.png Desktop-window.png
