Last week I turned on my desk top and it looked like it was starting properly. Then I noticed that the cursor was the only thing on a black screen. When booting up it showed Windows starting with the logo and then about a minute later nothing except the cursor.
I believe the Operating system is corrupted, but don't have a disk to check it out. When can I get a disk to repair the problem without reinstalling Windows 7 as I don't want to lose my other programs.

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

    Start with the basics:
Restart the computer and tap the F8 key repeatedly to get the Advance Boot Options
    Try Last Known Good..
Then if that doesn't do it go back and select Safe Mode, if that boot to desktop try restarting normally.
If that fails either try, go back and select Safe Mode with Command Prompt, if that boots type sfc /scannow
    When it completes reboot..
Come back and let us know what happens.

I have tried everything that you suggested and it still not doing anything. I still have the cursor and black screen.
I think I will need a repair disk, but don't know where to get one.

So it would not load the desktop in safe mode?
Did SFC say anything was repaired?
On the black screen with the cursor, can you CTRL+ALT+DEL and get to task manager? If so open explorer.exe

Nothing stated about being repaired, and there is no way to enter safe mode. No C prompt, only a black screen with the cursor that works nicely.

Windows is not booting up, a.k.a. stalling out. It could be a driver, or some type of hardware failure. Make and model of the PC please. If it's custom, full specs and age of the hardware.

This is a custom desktop with a gigabyte motherboard, 16gigs of ram, Amd A6-5400k APU and runs at 3.6 ghz,. I believe that it is around 12 years old.
    Thank you

So cursor, the black underline, not the pointer?

No explorer, no prompt. The age gives me pause with the HDD, a.k.a. hard drive. And with everything else...

Can you burn a CD/DVD with a friend via Google Drive? I have W7 images. Also UBCD on CD would work better here. If this HDD needs to be cloned, I wouldn't tax it too much.

I am trying to get a hold of a friend that still uses Win7 like I do.
When we can meet up I will attempt to make a disk from him. Should I not be able to get one made I will let you know.
This HDD is only about 3 years old only because I have been changing them out every 4 or 5 years.
thanks for your help and I will let you know what happens.

I finally found a computer that I was able to create the repair disk.
I ran the disk and it found only one problem and it stated it corrected the problem.
The problem is still with me, I am looking for an old copy of my hard drive so maybe I can copy and replace the boot section to get it to work. I hope that maybe that will work.
Any ideas are helpful at this point and thanks to everyone for your time.
