    Hello, 10-31-03
I'm new to this. Am trying to learn how to get my cd to be recognized in win 98. It will install software from vendor cd's. But when I try to copy files to a blank cd it says the drive is not ready or the disc is not ready, insert a disc. But whether I insert a disc or already had one inserted, it doesn't matter. Same message keeps returning, can't find disc, insert a disc. What's going on? Am trying to copy some files from an older drive to a newer one, and can't because of this. Even if I use copy software like "Backup Now", it can't find the drive to copy to, this cd. The cd manufacturer is 'Optorite'. Motherboard is FIC AN11. CPU is AMD Athelon 1700 XP. OS is Win 98. CD drive writes 40x, rewrites 12x, reads 40x.
Also, I've turned off the PC, disconnected the cables, restarted it, and turned it off again, reconnected the cables, and restarted. Still can't find the drive, but it does show it as "D" drive in 'my computer'.
Thanks for any suggestions, I would appreciate any help. Thanks again, Chaplain.

Chaplain and I have been having a conversation about this issue and from what I gathered he/she was trying to do a drag and drop to burn the cd. I don't think chaplain has packet writing software installed and I believe this is the cause of the problem.
I linked chaplain to Nero to see if that helps and I am waiting for him/her to post his/her progress in this thread.

    Welcome to the board chaplain.

Downloaded Nero software. It works. Also found NTI's backup software works now too. I also found that the file dates get changed to the date you copy them with Nero, but are preserved with NTI's backup software. Thanks for the help. Chaplain

You must take a better look at Nero's settings (New compilation, "Dates" tab).
    You have the following choices:
    • Use the date and time from the original file
    • Use Current Date and Time
    • Use this date: ...
