Win98se: Copying Floppy?

Hi! I have at my mother's house a DOS laptop and a Win98SE tower. While I haven't been doing this recently, I've been networking the two to give the laptop simulated hard drives. Now, I want to upgrade the network from using NSLAN to Easy-Net. However, the boot mechanism is on a floppy. I want to make a copy of the boot floppy, modify the copy and replace some drivers such as the mouse with more efficient versions. I know Win98SE has floppy copy support built-in but am wondering if I should use another. BTW, can I optimize a QEMM configuration from a floppy automatically? If so, how?

Okay, I can use that. BTW, On the DOS laptop, AFAIK, I am unable to automatically optimize the configuration, so I've been doing it manually. How do I handle the file that defines the memory for DOS-UP? Do you have any recommendations to increase memory there? I'm using Stealth mode/Frame and the "I=B000-B7FF" switch and want to implement more efficient drivers such as CuteMouse and PalmSys.

 

I'm pretty sure that I mentioned (somewhere) that I got into computers late. I missed the entire pre-GUI era: I began with 98SE, and the only DOS work I did was within that context. You are talking about things of which I know nothing.

Just out of curiosity, why the interest in such dated hard- and software?

 

Umm...it's actually part of a mental illness. Otherwise, I'd be into modern technology and wouldn't be wasting my time with obsolete stuff.

 

I guess I don't see the connection, but everyone needs a hobby, and I can think of worse ones - by far - to have.
