Win98se Flash Driver Broke!

Hi! I'm at my mother's house, and the Win98SE computer there stopped reading my flash drives properly. Worse yet, I'm using a flash drive as a second hard drive. I tried reinstalling the drivers a few times. It's still not registering. The Add New Hardware wizard complains that there is a problem with the driver but won't give details. I also tried a file given to me recently. Let me see if I can find the name of the driver online.

 

I have nusb36e.exe but don't know where it puts its files. If I knew that, maybe I can reinstall the drivers. I think the current ones are corrupt, because an .exe file included with it was corrupt.

The Add New Hardware wizard states that not all files are loaded. I tried loading more drivers, but that didn't work.

 

From the dev:
1.Remove ALL drivers USB flash drives.
2.Remove ALL drivers USB 2.0 controllers.
3.Remove ALL USB 1.1 and 2.0 controllers and devices.
4.Remove ALL unknown devices.
5.Install NUSB 3.5 and reboot.
6.After detection new USB 1.1 and 2.0 controllers
(if it will occur) too it is necessary to be reboot.
Remember! You install it at own risk!

The installer has this line: %windir%\rundll32 %windir%\system\advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection _nusb.inf
I think you can find that inf, right click and install?

 

It didn't work. It didn't detect the device, and I can't find the new drivers.

 

I just searched the entire hard drive for the file. I didn't find it.

 

That driver file is a cab file, just extract it to a folder.

 

What's its name, so I can find it?

 

nusb36e.exe - is a self extracting 'zip', so you can open it with 7-zip or WinRAR..

I'm at my mother's house now. Sorry for the delay. I tried to extract the software but couldn't get it to work. Also, when I try to use the Add New Hardware wizard and choose Browse to find a folder that has another driver, the program crashes saying it performed an illegal action. I will now try to find the folder myself and type in the path manually.

 

I uninstalled all the USB drivers and restarted the system. It automatically installed the USB hub driver and restarted. The driver for the drive didn't install. When I opened the device in the Device Manager, I got an Error #2: NTKERN.VXD couldn't load the driver.

 

I think the USB hub or driver is damaged.

i never could get 98 to read flash except for a coby drive that came with a cd driver disc

 

can you make a disc out of a dvd or cd disc to be used as reusable disc?make it in windows 10 maybe

It didn't work. IIRC, somebody here gave me a link to a hub driver for Win98SE. Can somebody repost the link for me, please?
