Hi! I have an Iomega Parallel Zip100 drive, but it's very slow. :( I believe I have an IDE version somewhere. If I can find it, how easy is it to install? I'm pretty good with the software but not the hardware.

if you do find it, it would just be like screwing in a cdrom drive in the computer case,
then making sure the jumpers in the back are correct, the whole master/slave thing.
and evidently, it makes a difference if it is an IDE zip drive or an ATAPI zip drive.

You might need to install proper drivers to get the ZIP drive working properly;, at least with Win 9x; the IDE drivers for hard drives don't necessarily work with ZIP drives. (Personally, I wouldn't bother with ZIP technology; I have both a ZIP for two computers, and thought ZIP was a decent backup, but of 24 ZIP disks, (after 4-8-10 years) 21 were unreadable in either drive, including some were unused, and still in their original wrapper. I hope you have better luck.)

I have the Guest driver and am currently using the parallel drive on my Win98SE tower at my mother's house. I was using one on a DOS laptop there to act as a simulated hard drive, but that computer went missing. :( I found it last weekend, though. :) When it gets connected, I can hook it up again.

I had better experience with Zip disks than you but not much better: I sometime get clicking sounds when reading disks, and sometimes it eventually works but sometimes it doesn't. I thank you for your info. :)

gibson research, famously known for his spin rite utility,
has an interesting article about zip disks and the click of death
    https://www.grc.com/tip/codfaq1.htm
the program, called trouble in paradise for zip disks, can be downloaded from that page.
anyway, good luck with it all.
