I am hoping someone can help me, I seem to have picked up this nasty on my computer. Over the past couple of days I have researched on numerous sites and tried several fixes including the Vundo fix and nothing seems to have worked. I have run Adaware and it does not seem to find this thing. But my Avast antivirus program keeps popping up regularly to tell me that a virus has been found, but does not seem to be able to delete or move it to the chest. The constant hijackings of my web browser and the insane popping of my anti virus program is driving me nuts.

    Can anyone help me please?

    Thanks in advance.

    Lee.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Do you have the name of the virus that Avast finds?

But please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

While the steps below may not remove all the malware on your PC, they will produce some logs in which you need to attach as stated below, and from there our malware experts can post some further manual removal instructions tailored to your infection to help remove it.

    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    Sorry Halo,

I should have followed those instructions first.

I have done all that is described step by step and it seems to have fixed the problems. There were 14 files found with 4 infections of the Vundo virus, which rather annoys me because I had tried at least half a dozen previous fixes to get rid of it.

Seems to be no more popups and no more hassles, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi Flashfire, glad the guide seems to have cured your problem, but I would attach the logs anyways as malware these days is sneeky and if you have one infection your likely to have some others potentially.

Just as a double check attach the logs and our malware guys will give them the once over to see if indeed your clean :)
