   I have a compac presario f750us laptop with vista home premium plus. I one I woke up and went to start the laptop and screen went blank.i have rebooting, and using the installed repai program, and nothing works. I try to go to safe mode same thing blank screen. Right now i am running linex ( spelling?) thru a flash drive. so i think i can get to the files thru that? I need some direction please.

   Hi
   
   Can you click CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up task manager? if so then click File > New Task (Run) and type explorer and hit enter, does the desktop and taskbar re-appear?
   
   Do you have the original Vista CD/DVD?
   
   As for using Linux to recover any files then try the guide HERE
