Windows 10 - How To Stop Defender From Wanting To Do Quick Scan Every Hour

Every hour the Windows Security icon on the task bar show a yellow exclamation. So of course I click on the icon only to discover that Windows Defender wants to do a "quick scan". This happens every hour!! Not a big deal just something annoying. But still I want to stop this activity.

How do I stop Windows Security from wanting to do a quick scan every hour or so?

I looked at the Task Scheduler and disabled one task (under Microsoft --> WIndows --> Windows Defender) that looked like it might have something to do with this, but this did not work. Perhaps I am missing something?

 

Any chance you run CCleaner on a regular basis?
If you do, go to the Applications tab, scroll down to Utilities and uncheck Windows Defender.
Then run windows update and do a quick scan. Hopefully with the quick scan history rebuilt, you should no longer receive the scan prompt.

 

I have CCleaner, but "Windows defender" was already unchecked. But this was a good try.

"sounds like after Defender checks for update" - there is no such setting that I can find. But thanks anyway.
