Lets cut to the chase I'm a windows 10 insider, so every few weeks or so I get a new build of windows 10.... Alright so thats out of the way, I recently purchased a subscription to bitdefender but I noticed that when a new build comes out I'm forced to reinstall said security software.

With that being said does anyone else have this problem with other security software or no ? I'm not so concerned about myself I'm more concerned with my in-laws who are also insiders they travel and if by some chance they get a new build while they're travelling then they have a good chance of surfing with the basic protection that windows defender provides.

    Thanks in advance
    Ken

Provided your in-laws use the internet sensibly you have nothing at all to worry about - Defender provides perfectly adequate security. That's what I use, and its predecessor MS Security Essentials, and haven't had anything more serious than a few PUPs in all the years. A MBAM scan soon dispatches those.

Don't get me wrong my in laws are rather sensible when it comes to internet surfing... They just have the concern that when your at home you have full control over your security since lets face it you can make adjustments to your router yourself... When going on vacation to hotels and such the routers are basically wide open allowing any asshat in proximity to use the services and they're just concerned about banking and such while on vacation and all.

Yeah, the worry is understandable when on the road. I'm a strong believer in Trusteer Rapport, which ensures that when you access a protected site then that is where you are, and not on some fake site. Also of course, taking great care to ensure that the network you are connecting to is the one you think you are connecting to is critical. These are the main risks imo when away from home, rather than picking up a virus or other malware. Tell them only to use their own laptop/tablet, to keep it safe, and to protect all their sensitive sites with Rapport and they should be safe whichever AV they use. My 2p anyway.

I would NEVER do banking on a computer when vacationing! In fact, I go to our bank sites on only one computer in the house and that is hard wired to the router.

My husband and I went to Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii for 6 weeks. I planned the trip. We were not with any tour group. We used ATMS. I made sure before we left that we had sufficient funds to cover withdrawls and I informed the credit card companies that we would be traveling with the dates and locations.

Some bills I knew would be coming due and are not automatically deducted, I over paid the previous month so we had sufficient credit.

    Hi

Personally as an ex=Microsoft MVP and Insider myself I would not be on the Insider Fast Ring on a daily use and main PC, as never know what the next build may break as basically you are still beta testing.

You can change the frequency of builds to the Slow ring or you can as well in Options > Windows Updates click Stop Insider Builds and later on click Start Insider Builds as your Windows logon email account is tied to being an Insider, I have stopped Insider builds on my main desktop and Surface Pro, but still have it active on a Laptop and Netbook to play with. I'd try the just going to the Slow ring over Stopping Insider builds for now as they will come less frequent but still keep you getting new beta test builds but may skip a version.

I'd personally never use free (coffee shop, hotel etc) wifi to do banking on the go, I tend to use the mobile wifi connection my phone as as its just like a router.
