I've finally decided to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. What a nightmare. I managed to get it done on my laptop but my desktop installation really has me FUSTRATED!

I get a pop up with "Realtek PCEI card reader" is incompatible with Windows 10. First time, I clicked the Uninstall button. Fine. Message STILL pops up, now telling me to manually uninstall. Fine.....but..... I've erased every blessed thing I could find related to this!! I've deleted keys in the Registry, deleted/disable devices in Device Manager. No avail. I looked in the registry under the Incompatibility App key/folder...all that's left in there is CrapCleaner and my Gateway registation folder(s).

I've downloaded and used special uninstall programs. They aren't finding anything.

I've tried downloading and installing the latest driver from Realtek thinking possibly the latest driver would be compatible with Windows 10. Nope.

I've spent all day for the last 4 days trying to track down any files related to this program and HAVE HAD IT. Argh!! https://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/images/smilies/new/banghead.gif

Here's a bit of info about my system:
    Gateway ZX6971 All in One
Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
    2.50 gigahertz Intel Core i5-2400S
    256 kilobyte primary memory cache
    1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    6144 kilobyte tertiary memory cache
    64-bit ready

PLEASE can someone help. Please....any suggestions/leads/advice. SO VERY appreciated. Thank you.

Try uninstalling the card reader before having another shot at it

Thanks for taking the time to reply Earthling but I don't know how to do that. Can you point me in the direction of instructions? My Gateway isn't like my older computers where you had a tower or case to unscrew and muck around in. I'd rather not blow up the whole machine. :)

Relax! I'm only talking about removing the driver, not physically removing the device  Open Win 7 Device Manager (it's in Control Panel), see if you can find the card reader, right click and Uninstall. Then try your Win 10 upgrade again. I don't have Win 7 any more so you may need help from someone that does with further questions. Once you have Win 10 properly set up I don't think you will look back.

    Earthling,
I did delete the card reader out of Device Manager. Now there isn't a memory tech device item in Device Manager. I have my webcam and Epson scanner under imaging devices and a "PCI device" under "Other devices" It says it's not installed but I disabled it anyway. I'm out of ideas. :(
btw, I had the same issue during installation with "Cool Iris" for Internet Explorer even though it was NOT installed and I don't use IE !! That one was easier to get rid of. This one is the program from H*%#. Also funny, I removed Win 10 from one of my machines that was running Win 10 and reverted back to Win 7 since I'd like to use the same OS on both machines. Now (insert maniacal laugh) I have Win 10 on laptop, Win 7 on desktop....right back where I started from.Computers, fabulous when they work.....A trip to H*%# when they don't.

OK, sometimes upgrades aren't successful and you have to go for a clean install. As the net is awash with guidance on that I won't suggest links. If you decide to go down that route please image your existing setup first, so you have a way back if required.

Thanks, but I'd rather live with Windows 7 for the time being than go through that again.
