    Hello Everyone,

I just had Windows 10 installed on my computer and what a headache.

One thing I have noticed is that I have many photos and videos that wont open.

The photo icons appear as a white vertical rectangle with blue mountains and the top right corner folded.

Now some photos are here and will open with no issues then there are some that look like the icon I described.

Any ideas? I've searched the web with no luck. Very frustrating considering these are very precious photos of my family.

Even when I access the external WD backup drive, some of them appear the same way and wont open.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Global 2004

I just right clicked on one of the photos and selected Properties. I selected the security tab and it has the following info.

    Object name: C:\Users\Global2004\Desktop\mom.jpg

i You must have Read permissions to view the properties of this object.
    Click Advanced to continue.

Not sure if that is helpful.

    Another Update:

After right clicking Properties, I select the Security Tab, I then select Advanced.
Under the Permissions tab I select continue, I then select Disable inheritance then Apply.
I select OK and it closes the Security Tab then OK again to close out of properties.

The icon doesn't change but I can now open the photo.

Another strange thing. I moved the photo to a new Folder I created on the Desktop and when I dragged it in there the icon was replaced with the picture of the photo.
When I drag the photo back to the origanal file everything is fine.

That seems to solve the problem but that creates a bigger problem. How can I Disable inheritance on all the affected photos at once? I have hundreds of photos.

    Can anyone please help?

Right-click the folders (one at a time) containing the photos, and follow the same procedure you previously did.

    Thanks Eldon for your post.

I'm not sure if you were trying to be funny or serious with your response or not.

Your suggestion is just not feasible when I have thousands of photos and files.

Any other helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

What part of my suggestion is funny?
You never said you have thousands of folders.
