I have a machine with windows 2000 installed on it and everytime I try to get on the internet (with dial-up) an error comes up that says "Shutdown initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. Your system will shutdown in... This error was cause by lsass.exe status code 128"

I try to close lsass.exe on the Task Manager but it won't let me. What is the purpose for lsass.exe and what is a solution? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

I believe that there is a virus that exploited LSASS.

    Microsoft has a fix (I don't have a link)

You should scan for viruses, in safe mode.

You may want to start there.
