Last night I used a system restore CD to re-install some program files on my computer system used specifically for phone-in dictation. After using the CD, I was prompted for a license number to upgrade to Windows 2000 (which the company did not provide me). I remember speaking with a technologist in the past, who told me there was one license number that everyone used to upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows 2000. If this is the case, can anyone provide me with a license number or point me in the right direction? I have a number of clinics/doctors who phone in dictation to this computer on a daily basis, and I don't know what to tell them since the system is not up and running. I have phoned the technical staff at the company that built the computer, but they are not helping me at all! So far, the system restore CD that they provided is not helping me at all since I cannot get beyond the required registration number.

Thank you for any help you can provide me.

If you can get a key from anyone that is running the software it will work or I would be happy to give you one.

Thank you soooo much for your offer of help. The tech people phoned me back and pointed out that the license number is on the side of the computer--big duh on my part. It looks like the license number isn't really going to help me much at this point, as the specialty software has disappeared entirely after using their restore disk. I will probably have to ship the computer back to them for reinstallation of the software, but I've learned a very important lesson from this whole ordeal--I will make a backup copy of the system in case something should happen in the future.

Again, thank you very much. I really do appreciate your willingness to share your license number.

They cant give you a copy of the software that really sucks. But its amazing how little we think of backups till something happens and we lose something important anyway your welcome wish I could have helped.

Giving a key here would be illegal.

You may want to check your computer to see if a MS sticker is placed anywhere on it. This is where the key would be located.
