    Hi,

I am getting a new computer and while trying to decide between Win7 x32 and x64 it occurred to me to see if there are 64 bit drivers for my SONY SDM-HS95 flat-screen monitor.

The SONY site lists OS's that are compatible and states that those not listed are not compatible. Not only is Win7 x64 not listed, Win7 is not listed at all!

Is it possible that my Monitor WILL work with Win7 and that I'm making an issue out of a non-issue?

    TIA

PS: here's what SONY online chat support Rep said:

Q: I'd like to know if Windows 7 will be compatible with my display...if so, will both the 32 bit OS as well as the 64 bit version be supported?

Rep: As per the information available online, I am really sorry that the Display is not compatible with the Windows 7 Operating System.

Me: do you know if SONY will be providing drivers to make it compatible?

Rep: I am sorry that the Drivers may not available in future for the Windows 7 Operating System as it is not compatible. However, you may try bookmarking the Drivers and Software to check for the Drivers in future.

It's a monitor, it'll work fine. Drivers for monitors are simply text files (*.inf) that set all the possible safe combination's of size and resolution.

Sony and support in the same sentence, are you sure about that ;) ?

satrow - you cracked me up. Sony and Service. lol... I love all my fellow Earthlings, yet find communication better when we're both talking the same language...I couldn't help but visualize the outsourced chat...almost asked if she was in India or Japan. I suppose the 1-2 minute lag between her replies is really small (she must actually be very fast) in that she probably had to translate my question to another language, look up the answer on SONY's site (which I already did) and translate back into English. I did have a fantasy that someone would be something along the lines of a knowledgeable geek. HAH! (yaye MG)

Thanks for the laugh and the info.

What OS are you running now XP, Vista? If Sony has a Vista driver that should work in 7 (does for my Hanns-G monitor) and as Satrow says it's just for resolution and refresh rate specifics. Just look in your monitor manual (or online & print them out) and you'd be all set.

sca - currently running XP Pro on an old Toshiba laptop and using the SONY display since the laptops' one is toast. (Of course, I just want the monitor to work with the new computer and new Win7 x64 OS)

Lots of good info here. Did a search and found a plethora of ".inf" files. Some even said SONY. I am hoping I don't have to find the file to monkey with, and am simultaneously appreciative for the info in case I do.

    MG rocks.

    ;)
