Windows 7 acting up - Malware?

My computer started acting funny 2 days ago. The wallpaper keeps disappearing then reappearing and the taskbar is playing up. The start menu won't display properly when I click on it, program icons are going missing, the clock shows the wrong time, programs won't open...

Can someone have a look at the attached logs and let me know if there seems to be anything on my machine? I had to run RogueKiller in safe mode - otherwise the computer rebooted during the pre-scan.

Thanks very much for your help.

Here are the two most recent Malwarebytes logs - both since this problem first appeared.

    Hi there sgregg - :)

Are you deliberately set up to use a proxy?

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry or PROXY tab and locate these 2 detections:

    • [FF][PROXY] vscoydth.default : user_pref("network.proxy.hxxp", "195.235.161.21"); -> FOUND
    • [FF][PROXY] vscoydth.default : user_pref("network.proxy.hxxp_port", 8080); -> FOUND
Place a checkmark next to each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

    • Now re run RogueKiller again and attach that log too please.
    • Explain how things are running.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I used MSconfig to put the computer into normal start-up, rebooted... and the computer wouldn't re-start. I got an error message saying that Windows couldn't restart, probably due to a change in settings, and that I'd need my windows installation disk to continue. This was a problem as I don't have a disk - Windows was pre-installed on the laptop when I got it.

Instead I used a back-up hard drive to boot the machine, and then ran Roguekiller in safe mode (it still reboots the computer if I try to run it when Windows is operating normally). That's the first of my two attached scans.

Since then I've got hold of a friend's windows repair disc, and was able to get the original hard drive to boot again. I ran Roguekiller again (in safe mode) and that's the second attached scan.

The problems I was experiencing seem to have stopped - the task bar and start menu are both behaving normally (so far at least).

Should I be concerned about the fact that Roguekiller won't run out of safe mode?

RogueKiller wont run it normal mode? What happens, what errors? It is a little curious.

When I launch Roguekiller it immediately starts the prescan, but then reboots the computer before the prescan completes. There are no error messages (apart from 'Windows shut down unexpectedly, do you want to reboot in safe mode?').

Are other tools (such as hitman and Malware Bytes) ok in normal mode?
    What about other software?

Everything else (other tools and other software) seems to work fine in normal mode. It's just Roguekiller that causes the machine to reboot.

Then I would not worry for now. Ready for final steps? :)

Sorry for the delayed reply (again) - yes, I'm ready to tidy up.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    3. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

All done. Thank you *very* much for helping me with this.
