hello everyone. I am wondering if there are known issues with Win& and firefox. The wife has 2 comps, a desktop I recently assembled and new notebook running Win 7 and Firefox. There seems to be an issue where a page will load slowly and basically freeze up the system. The screen may go gray and the little loading icon appears but nothing happens. you can not go to another tab even if it is open. You basically have to wait until it is done and often it takes quite some time. I have not been able to emulate the problem, and I don't seem to have the same issue on my system running XP. Is it possible AVG is causing a problem? I removed it from my system when it would not allow me to run a game that used Game Guard. I am now using the Win AV.
The notebook is an HP i3 370 system running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit and the Desktop is an AMD Athalon II 640 quad, running Win 7 Professional 32 bit. Both systems are running AVG.
Any thoughts would be much appreciate. Thanks.

I ran Firefox on my home PC with Win7 X64 Home Premium w/o any problems for several months before I discovered PaleMoon. It's basically identical to Firefox except that it has been optimized for Windows operating systems. I've been using PaleMoon for about 6 months and have not had one single iota of any problems whatsoever. I started a thread about PaleMoon back in October 2010, check it out at this link if you're interested. The thread has a LOT of good info, and some great tips about migrating your Firefox bookmarks and settings in to PaleMoon as painlessly as possible.... check it out!

Additionally, I suspect the internet problems are due more to AVG than Firefox or Windows. The newer versions of AVG have become bloated and resource hungry (IMO) and AVG is not the product it once was. I'd suggest removing AVG completely (everything including the Link Scanner, toolbar, etc), then install either Avira's Free Antivirus (my personal choice) or the free version of Avast Antivirus and see if you notice a difference online....

    I hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. I have noticed that while the new versions of AVG seem to scan much more quickly, they do seem resource hungry. As mentioned I removed it from my system and am using the Windows Av as it was recommended by a techie. It runs seamlessly on my XP system so far. I did try shutting off the Windows firewall, to see if that helps, as I remember it being a problem before with XP. Again, thanks for the reply and I will check out PaleMoon.

    Hi

Firefox should be fine on Windows 7, I have run it during the betas of Win7 and now with the final with no issues, my Antivirus is different in AVAST (my choice as I like it) and on my laptop and netbook Microsoft Security Essentials as its light weight for those types of PC and very good in ist protection capabilities.

If you have/uninstall AVG and the issue goes then, suspect AVG as it does add a hell of alot of scanning modules these days, I suspect one may conflict.

If by "Win AV" you mean Microsoft Security Essentials then thats a good AV and I would leave it be, but I would now uninstall Firefox version you have and install the latest version 4.0 for Firefox from HERE* and see how you go.

Also please do mention any other security applications you may have installed?

I will try and remove the AVG. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials on my XP comp. There are no other security programs on the comp in question. The other day, when I loaded Fortune Stones from Facebook, on my comp, it took 5 seconds to be up and ready to play. Wife's comp took at least 10 seconds and that is with the firewall disabled. It would seem that since the notebook does pretty much the same thing, the same conflict exists there. Again thanks for the reply.

Pale moon project is a good browser I tried that myself but now (IMO) Opera 11.10 has taken over the browsing wars and I had no problems with the browser so far (Fingers Crossed).

I would suggest in giving Opera 11.10 a try out aswell.
