HI! I downloaded the Windows 7 Beta from MSDN back in late January, and I'll be finally installing it tomorrow (yeah, procrastination rolleyes). From what I remember, the Win7Beta has an expiration date, and I cannot remember what it is, and couldn't find it at MSDN. True, I didn't spend more than 5 minutes looking, but I did find out that the beta is not available for download anymore and the 1st RC will be out next week (May 5 I think). I'd hate to go through the install only to find out that the beta is already expired, or expires in a couple days.... anyone know when the Windows 7 Beta expires?
    :confused

    Thanks.

WIndows 7 RC should now be available, so why not use that instead?

Only MSDN and Connect folks have it since yesterday, the rest of us can grab it May 5 as was stated.

You will like it, much more improved than the beta, the XP Mode for Virtualization is a neat addon, should get around the need or lack of Vista/Win7 compatible apps.

much more in it but dlb, delete the beta download, not worth even entertaining installing it, just jump into the RC as its basically near as dammit what will be released baring any major showstoppers, as this RC is simply a tire kicking excersise.

Ya, they want to get this out for Christmas this time and get some hoopla going!:-D I don't know if it's just me but there seems to have been a much smaller beta community these days than there was for Longhorn/Vista. No more free airfare/hotel/banquets for the, what were we called, 'preferred communities'? I can't remember. Fun times for those that got to go and some great schwag too.

Yes smaller techbeta community, seems to have narrowed/removed the ones that didnt feedback alot, but the swag is still their, not gained any myself this run, but do get swag from msft in other areas, or did actually out of the blue get a thankyou card from the Sr VP of Windows Core, which was written on a beta Win7 DVD, different, but well apprieciated.

Yeah timeline and a guess seems Sept/Oct to me.

OP stated he downloaded win 7 beta from MSDN, hence why I mentioned that the RC version is available.

Thanks. I think my MSDN subscription expired :-o I can't download anything, all the download links are greyed out. That's OK. I can wait a few days for RC1. Or maybe I wasn't on the MSDN :confused

Yes, I've been drinking. LOL :drink :wine

    Hi dlb,

Its on MSDN and Technet, as I have subscriptions to both and its listed, although I do get it off MS Connect, do login and check your account details and it will tell you if your subscription is run out.

@Augie, if you can remember the thread in which I suggested to Bill to use a method to install Windows via a bootable USB, I used this method to install Win7 RC on my main laptop and from start to usable GUI, Win7 installed in 18mins! compare that with a WinXP install :)

    HI Bill

Yes based off that one but these instructions http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1316614&postcount=10 works a treat for the install.

On Windows 7 and would be fine with Vista and I think XP in that Easy Transfer is superb in Win7, just exported my settings etc from the Beta install and now recovering it to the new RC, pitty it cannot transfer the installed apps from old PC, sadly you have to install them again, but Easy Transfer does give you a list of what you had installed so that you know what you had previously.

Indeed not a bad trial period is it.

A year to get used to it and fill up your hard drive with pictures, music, documents and other files you won't want to move when the trial runs out and it's time to go back. It's almost like they planned it.

Why would I not want to do that?

I think he means that it would be a major pain-in-the-a** to move a year's worth of data.

That and how many people are going to want to go back to Vista or XP after a year of 7.
