Hello and thank you for reading this post.
I have made mistakes before; even some dumb ones but never one this bad. Hanging in the balance is an eMachine 525 running Windows 7 but it was very slow - no virus protection, no MBam, no SAS - nothing. It ended up with me because of a problem with the wi-fi; it was not connecting anywhere; I never got that far.
I cleaned it up; it was running much faster. I should have stopped there but sometimes I can go a little too far and this was one of them! I was trying the AVG PC Tune Up 2011 and it has an option to wipe the drive; it doesn't touch any files or folders. Since this laptop was owned by someone else before, I decided to do that. Eight hours into the process and 1/20th of the progress bar I got worried that it would affect the programs. I cancelled the procedure.
The only disk I have is the Repair Disc 7 - 64 bit the system prompted me to make but it isn't working. The computer is also supposed to boot if you press Alt and F10 at the same time - not happening. I can't contact eMachines.
I changed the drive to boot from a DVD and I have a copy of Windows XP Professional but it won't boot from it even though I know it works. It just boots into the Repair Console which is in some kind of loop whether I choose factory settings or save user's data. I really did it this time.
Please help so I can get this laptop out of my sight! I did learn a lesson about enough is enough!
    Thanks.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, citsme.

Nothing worse than a dead laptop. :(

You might try downloading and burning Ultimate Boot CD and booting to that disk. It's got some good tools (MBRtool, etc.) that might help you.

Thank you for your suggestion. When I get through this, I will come back and put that in my bag of tools! The problem has changed considerably so I am going to move this thread to the OS forum.

    I appreciate your suggestion.
