    Hi,

I have 4 user accounts on my PC but my wifes fails to start. It was working perfectly until a few hous ago. When you click her icon to start the system hangs at the Welcome page.

All the other accounts work normally.

I don't know where to start to try and fix this problem.

I did a system restore and now her account starts with a temporary profile. Everything she has done appears lost.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Thanks

A restore should only affect Windows system files, programs installed and crap like that, your personal files (pics etc) will be ok.

If it were me, I would probably first try and undo the system restore and start back at point A.
I cant remember exactly, but im sure Win7 has options to do so, once you navigate back to system restore!

If successful, I would then log into one of the working accounts (pref admin) to create a new account for the mrs, transfer her old settings across from the corrupt account, then delete it, reboot!

    Rep ;)

System Restore restores a windows system to the state it was in at the date/time of the restore point. Anything after is lost.
Since there are clearly problems on your OS running the System File Checker was what you should have done at the beginning. I suggest you run it now.
You should follow the guide for your OS carefully and exactly and pay attention to the article lower down when it tells you how to generate a TEXT file of the results to your desktop (a CBS log is almost impenetrable).

You might find running it in Safe Mode is a good thing.

If her profile was corrupt & it created a new one, her files should still be in the old profile, go to c:\users\ and check there. If you don't see folders, go to show hidden folders under view / options.
