When I boot up my laptop I get a black screen with two boot choices.
First one is "Windows 7 Home Premium"
Second is "Windows 7 Home Premium (recovered).

I wait and windows opens up the first option "windows 7 Home premium"

How can I get boot up to by pass this screen and boot straight to Windows 7 Home Premium.?

    Step by step -

Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder options, View tab
Check Show Hidden Files and Folders > OK
Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files > OK
Uncheck Hide Extensions for Known File Types > OK
    Click (C: )
Right click boot.ini > Properties > uncheck Read Only > OK
    Right click boot.ini > Copy
Right click an empty area of the same window > Paste - a copy of boot ini will be created, just in case of errors with the following
    Right click boot.ini > Open with ... > Notepad
Edit the line timeout=10 (may be some other value) so that it reads timeout=0 (that's a zero)
    File > Save

Now execute the first line again and reverse steps 2,3,4 and 6, to put things back as they were

    Reboot

Be careful - any errors editing boot.ini and you won't be able to boot up at all.

In the Start/Orb search box type in msconfig and hit enter.

In the window that opens go to the boot tab.

Hit the Check all paths button (if you have one) to see if it will delete the extra entry automatically.

If no check button or it says both entries are valid, then you can delete the (recovered) entry by highlighting it and hitting the delete button.

Or if you choose you can just lower the timeout setting from 30 seconds to 3 seconds which will leave both options on the boot screen but boot into your Win7Premium entry with a shorter wait time.

    Boot.ini is XP's boot loader. Win7 changed. You don't have a boot.ini file.

Try msconfig because it is much easier than trying to manually edit in Win7 which gets a bit technical.

Do you mean you can't open boot.ini Properties or can't see the Read Only option? It's right at the bottom under Attributes.

Went to msconfig, bu there was no check all boot paths, so I highlighted the path I did not need and hit delete, it deleted it, I clicked apply and rebooted and it booted up right into windows, thanks for your advice, I really appreciate everything.

    You're welcome. :)

I don't know what happened to the check all paths button. I only have one Win7 installation so I figured it might only appear when there was more than one entry. But I guess it is just gone. Thanks for letting me know you didn't have one either.

Earthling, carry on with your Christmas cheer, 'Tis the Season! :drink
