Windows 7 issues asus gaming laptop

Hi,
I recently purchased a new gaming laptop (an asus vx7) and have had no problems using it offline. I took it online for the first time yesterday and it downloaded a slew of compulsory updates and patches for windows 7, as well as two patches for the witcher 2. After using my laptop today I experienced considerably slower loading times on all programs as well as game breaking lag on medal of honor. I have downloaded no otter programs and have not installed anything apart from moh and witcher 2. Seeing as these programs ran fine until today I'm assuming it has something to do with the windows 7 updates?
Any help is appreciated

 

Not all Windows updates are good, especially those that update your drivers. Never ever install those, drivers should come from the maker of board/card only!

Restore the machine to the previous point and start again. I can't guarantee that's the issue but it's a likely culprit.

BTW, turn off automatic updates and change to 'notify only', then choose what you want to install..

My opinion on recent MSFT updates is that some of the non-critical ones may not be suitable for all and that some are very poor and vague in the descriptions of what they actually do and what programs they may have an effect upon.

As far as following MSFT or Windows Update recommendations when it comes to driver updates - DON'T! Unless you cannot find the correct drivers from the maker (in your case Asus) or the chip maker because stock Windows drivers often (in my exp.) mean lesser performance.

I would uninstall all non-critical updates and see if your performance improves again after 2 reboots.
