Windows 7 (or vista) and up button

I am using the Windows 7 beta, and I am very satisfied. It's fast, and it looks good.

However, I don't like how they got rid of the "up" button for navigating directories. I know there's a new Windows Explorer, but the up button was very essential. I'm confused as to why they decided to leave it out. It's not as if they didn't already have code for it. I'd be disappointed if they left it out because they didn't want another button up there (since buttons are "ugly") or if it was just a little bug and they just gave up and left it out.

I am aware that you can click on the address bar to get to your directories, but it's a bit frustrating if you have bad aim and you click on something you don't mean to. The up button was always in the same place. Muscle memory would bring you back to the same place all of the time, but with this new address bar doohickey you have to be aware of which word you are clicking. The words aren't exactly big either. You don't exactly have a big margin of error. When you're in a rush to do something, like trying to drag and drop files all over the place, it's a big annoyance when you click the wrong thing.

Is there some sort of tweak that can get the button back? That would be good.

    Hi

Sadly that option will likely not come back as it was dropped in Vista for the "breadcrumbs" option and just the blue back and forward buttons as it was deemed surplus to requirements as the other options do similar. I find the forward and back buttons are easy to use just like the up button, they are always in same place and stand out with their blue orbs.

You could via the Feedback icon on your Win7 desktop, bug this and see what they say, but likelyhood is that it will be tagged with a "wont fix".

Dont think you will find an addon as someone would likely have to re-code it into a themepack.

A lot of the time, I use find target to find a file, then try to go up a directory so that I can delete the whole folder, but now that's gone. Then, if the window is not maximized, the whole breadcrumb won't show. Then I have to maximize the window just so I can see the breadcrumb. It's just really annoying that they had to not only hide the button, but totally banish it from the OS as well.

I managed to find something called QTTBar. There is an up button, but it doesn't work. Hopefully that's just an incompatibility with Windows 7 that will be fixed by the developer in the future. And yes I have sent feedback about my concerns about the lack of an up button.

    Hi

While this doesnt integrate into Windows 7 as QTTBar does (and did try their beta version of the app out and doesnt work very good, maybe as I have x64 Win7 installed), but I remembered I blogged about this app for Vista as a replacement for Windows Explorer as its lacking in options, whereas Cubic Explorer has many great options including "folder up" , just downloaded and installed it in win7 and it works OK, may need to right click and Install as Admin.

Great on feedback as the more they get the more likely that "may" change some things, but I would be very supprised if this does get changed, its less likely that core components will be changed as reading the lists of bug submissions I note alot of "wont fix" or "by design".

Thanks, but I'd rather have a addon button rather than a whole new explorer. There is a Mavis Up Button, but that's $5. I'll try this out later. Thanks.

Neat little add-on, cheers for posting and I can let you know it works in Windows 7 x64 fine (just tested the demo), kinda looks good in green next to the blue FWD and BWD buttons, although and I maybe missing something here, it doesnt do anything different to the FWD and BWD buttons or is it just a accustomed to the up button thing.
