Hello- I am about to buy another brand new computer, and the OEM's do not provide any back up media anymore. My question is, how can I go into the installed OS and burn myself an installation disk that's bootable?
Thanks for the time and consideration.

You can't, but if you already have a retail product key you can download the Win 7 ISO here. It has to be a retail key rather than an OEM key but I understand that if you only have an OEM key then MS will provide you with a DVD for a small charge. I haven't tried this myself - no need - but it is now the only legal way to download a Win 7 ISO, all other links having been taken down. Other than that there's always Ebay.

As to no disks, every new OEM computer has a recovery partition and also provides the means to burn recovery media, so that is really all you need.

So, I can make a bootable disk from the Recovery Partition for future need- like an HDD crash and reinstall?

As far as I know, the license key for the OEM installation is on the case. Any other OEM machine in the past has been like that- plus, I've gotten disks with the machines, too.

I have the opportunity to get a brand new HP Envy with excellent components and features with Windows 7 Professional on it, right from HP. I also have an ISO disk that I made of Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64. I downloaded it from Microsoft about a year ago, just before they quit doing that. No key, though.
I haven't been able to find a decent source to by the Full Retail version of that OS, except on eBay- and I'm not sure I trust that stuff there.

I'm grateful for your response- Thank you!

Yes, the exact process varies between manufacturers but you can create flash or DVD recovery media, but you will probably only be allowed to do it once. Personally I never rely on that, as the reinstall will include all the unwanted stuff bundled with the OS. A better alterantive is to clean up the system first and then create and keep a system image. Win 7 has that capability built in - all you need is an external drive to keep it on.

Yes, normally OEM keys are on the COA sticker on the case, though that system has been replaced on newer machines where it's built into the UEFI BIOS. Some manufacturers may still provide recovery disks but it's a dying practice.

Keep that ISO disk - it may come in very handy indeed further down the road.
