    Open up start menu.

This stuff can mess with your hard drives we will do these scans first.

In the start menu type cmd or command prompt,Right click on the cmd icon and select administrator rights.
Now while in command prompt type in the little black box "Type: chkdsk /f".
Chkdsk /f will ask you a question Press Y for yes.And reboot system.
This operation can take up to 10 mins or 30 mins depending on how old your system is.

After this step is done.Go to step two.I bet there are going to be errors on your drive after running all the scans and removal.

    Now Step two.

Let's go back into cmd as administrator rights.

Then while in command prompt."Type SFC /scannow".
This scan will check the integrity of the windows files.
This should take up to 10 mins to 30mins.

Type this in the command prompt to locate the CBS log file. findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfclogs.txt"

Save it as a text and upload it here if there are any errors.

FYI edit save the text note pad as onto your desktop. This will be much easier to find.

    Then after them scans.

Go back to your start menu and Type this %temp% in your search menu.A white folder will pop up like this below.

    Capture.PNG

Click in the box where the folders are and Press CTRL + A to highlight all items and delete them.

These items are mostly junk files not needed 90% of the time.Let me know if any thing cannot be removed.

The only thing that should remain in this folder is the FXSAPIDebuglogfile.Every thing else should be removed to the recycling bin.

If you can take a picture of your %appdata% folder.

You can find the appdata folder by doing the same thing as the temp folder in the search option on the start menu.

You can use snipping tool as a window snip.

Ask TimW for the final cleanup steps, which will reset those files/folders back to hidden.

*The contents of the temp & appdata folders can be found in his MGLogs.zip folder upload.

So what are you saying ?
Look at these folders and anything i dont use etc delete ?

If so do i just right click and delete or do it another way, please advise.

Also if i do use say the majority of it what affect does this have on the pc ?

I would start uninstalling stuff you don't use.I would use Iobit uninstaller.Download@MajorGeeks

Some of that stuff...Well if you don't use some of it.Then most likely it was packed with what ever was downloaded and opened. When a virus / fake software is downloaded and open you get these kinda results with your folders being swamped with junk. These two places %appdata% and %temp% folders are the most common places malware hides.

    OK
I am going through the app data folder now.

    Tell me please.
I use Lightroom and sometimes when i try to save a file i am told not enough memory.
I then delete all the files in the temp folder then it saves fine.

Can some kind of code be applied to a bat file which when i double click deletes these files without my having to go into it each time.

    Thanks

Not enough memory most likely means your hard drive is getting close to full.Is your Hard drive bar Blue or green color. If it's a red bar then that means your hard drive is nearly full and needs cleaned out.

There is a rule of thumb.I normally try and keep my hard drives at least 60% empty.Mine is at 64.8 Free Space. And this is my main SSD 240 gig.

Then most likely the other two options is.Not enough RAM message or not enough VM memory.

These are the locations of temporary folders in the various operating systems, which Tim has already checked for malware.

There are numerous applications available to clean All user-accounts automatically found Here including -

How much RAM does your system have.If it has 4gigs or less. This could be causing this error message.

Right click on your Task Bar and open your Task manger.

    Ok
Like I say I click save on photo and told not enough memory.
So I right click and choose open in Photoshop.
Once in Photoshop I click on save and done.

    Same memory & pc etc.
So I mentioned when I hit this message in lightroom I delete temp files and it saves.

So my workaround is can I have a button on the desktop that I can press to delete temp files.

Sounds like you are limited on RAM.You seem to have windows 32bit which can only use 3.25 gigs of ram max.If it was a 64bit windows you will be able to go past that limitation.

I would install Advanced system care 11 and run it.It will give a little more boost in speed.Fare warning disable malewarebytes when you install asc.I will tell you how to setup malwarebytes to not target asc as pup.

I am typing on a cell so I have a hard time posting links.

  27. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

I assume as you have not mentioned anything i just run it with the settings / selections as it was downloaded correct ?

  28. Anon-469e6fb48c

    Anon-469e6fb48c Anonymized

    Yes correct

Just click the scan options.Reason why i did not suggest the options part is because ASC most of the time is locked down. And some of the stuff is only unlocked by buying the pro version.

  29. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

    Ok,
I will start the scan now & take a shower.

Will check it when i get back.

You mention malewarebytes,i only use it when i have an issue.
Should i also install this on the pc,i do have AVG internet security so not sure if they would clash etc ?

  30. dr.moriarty

dr.moriarty Malware Super Sleuth Staff Member

Don't you still have it installed from your use of it in the malware forum's thread? It was recommended that you keep it for periodic scanning anyway.

  31. Anon-469e6fb48c

    Anon-469e6fb48c Anonymized

You can setup malwarebytes to only scan when you need it too.AVG no they don't clash with one another.

    I personally don't use Anti-virus software.Too much Bloatness.

I was able to survive a Ransomware attack last month with out reinstalling windows. And with out Anti-Virus software.I only use the setup major geeks has to help kill of the attacks.

I would agree with dr. moriarty.

Two best things that i use is Malwarebytes and ZoneAlarm Secuirty. And that's it.

    It's up to you.

  32. theremotedr

I do have the MB installed but i misunderstood from what was wrote.

Will E Coyote you mentioned you could advise how to set it up so it would not to not target ASC

  40. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

Still running in scan file system.

  41. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

    Its now finished.
Plenty of them are Advanced System Care.

There are some which say ADWcleaner Quarantine which were from the scanning tools from the other day,i remember these were quarentined as no option to delete them.

There are also some which i do recognise but i use these files / tools etc so i must keep them.

And thats it,so basically i just need to remove/delete the items that were quarantined from the scan the other day.
    There are 6 of these.

  42. Anon-469e6fb48c

    Anon-469e6fb48c Anonymized

Check off the one's that are not advanced systemcare.Leave the advanced systemcare unchecked to exclude it from being scanned. Then click on the ignore always button.

  43. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

Where is the ignor option as at the bottom right i only see Quarantine selected

  44. Anon-469e6fb48c

    Anon-469e6fb48c Anonymized

Did you have the Warn user option selected in the custom scan option. If this is not selected the ignored option will be disabled and quarantine will be put in place.

  45. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

I assume no as I asked do I need to select or change anything but just hit the blue scan button.
This scan took about 3 hours so I will close this down and run it again.

  46. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

Looking at your screen shot, yes i copied the same like for like.
I never had the option to ignore at the end.

The scan took 5 1/2 hours.
I will need to do it later or tomorrow now

  47. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

    Ok
So tonight I will scan the system again.
As I selected to warn user etc but after 5 hour never had the option to ignore etc what should I then do ?
