Windows 7 To 10 Upgrade Disaster

Hello,

My father-in-law brought his computer (lenovo T410) to me because he received an error during his upgrade

You PC/Device needs to be repaired
A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed

Error code: 0xc000000f

He had no recovery tools so he pressed F9 and in advanced options choose system restore.

After starting system restore a Restore Error Message Error 1 occurs. After clicking OK the computer restarts and the original Recovery message occurs again... over.. and .. over....

I searched for answers to the original message and get answers for Windows 8 machines also no answers that work for the Error 1 message because they require access to the computer and I don't have that.

What's the best course of action?

I would say use the computer's restore to factory function which will put it back in its 'as bought' state. But if there are pictures or other personal files that must not be lost then you will need first to boot the machine from a suitable bootable CD, such as a live Linux CD, and copy the files off to another disk. Ask if you need more advice on that or on restoring to factory. If the latter then tell us the exact make and model.

 

You did have it online for the windows update I hope, when you use the Microsoft media creation tool it must be online to update to 10. I have 3 Lenovos, 1 HP, and 3 Asus computers and all updated without any issues. Otherwise I would do the above or if you have files you could do a system restore and try to go back a day before you tried the update.
I also have heard you can go back to your old OS if you don't like W 10 for 30 days, so there might be a backup created when the update starts.
