Windows 7 Ultimate loads like a snail

    Hi all,

    My windows 7 ultimate takes forever to load.
    From power on to sign in I could go make coffee.
    I have run msconfig and only left Avira on at start up.

    Is there a thread on how to speed up windows 7?
    Is there a windows 7 Malware removal procedure thread?

    I may have been spoiled by the lightening speed of Ubuntu Linux 10.10

    Hi

    If you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) does it still load slowly?

    Is this a very new install and are all drivers installed and upto date, especially the Chipset?

    Can also follow this basic maintanence guide HERE as all work with Windows 7 (diskeeper lite may not though) and Video Guide to CCleaner HERE

    Could also uninstall Avira and then try again with a boot with this security app not installed.


    As for malware guide for Windows 7 then yes follow the Windows Vista one at below steps.

    1. ) Safe mode same same 1.5 minutes to get to usable page after choosing safe mode, hangs in text screen.
    2. ) 1 month old install up to date updates as of yesterday, device manager no problems.
    3. ) clean, defrag & ccleaner run yesterday. ccleaner run 10 min ago.
    4. ) will try "HERE" & uninstall avira (wait avira is set to check boot for rootkits hmmm)
    This is a business HP machine I think I need to check security settings in bios.
    Will also run "Read & Run me first"

    Thanks will get back with answer when done, lots of work to do here.

    Ps also IE temp folder keeps getting big and needs to be cleaned a lot

    Found Problem
    Avira set to maximum & scanning boot sector MBR etc.
