I have a real dilemma here and am in serious need of help. I bought Win 7 Ultimate for 2 installs over a year ago. I bought an Asus Laptop a year ago which came win the 7 Home and upgraded to Ultimate with no problems at all. 3 months ago I bought a Dell with 7 Home and upgraded it to Ultimate. Again no problems! About a week ago I started getting multiple error message on the Asus stating that my Windows 7 was NOT valid. Now today I am getting the same messages on the Dell. Not able to get help from Microsoft which keeps insisting that these operating systems are invalid. Two huge questions: IF this is actually the case why would it be such a very long time before getting these error messages, Also, what can I possibly since now I am being told there are 30 days remaining before the OS on both systems locks up?!

Any ideas are most appreciated. I hope I am not stuck with buying on OS all over again. If so, I will get the very cheapest Home Essentials I can, and have clue at all what will happen if I install it over top of 7 Ultimate which I have now.

What type of Win7 disc did you buy? Did you buy it at retail?

If you have called Microsoft what have they told you?

SP1 was released a few weeks ago and perhaps that has something to do with the validation problem.

I had a similar problem after installing some updates but re-installing the key did the job for me.

Can you check to see if you have installed KB971033 in your updates? This wretched update invalidated my Win 7 Ult x64 some months after it was purchased from Amazon, installed, and had passed the WGA test. M$ refused to relent and I had to buy Win 7 again, though thankfully Amazon refunded my original purchase.

Hopefully this isn't your issue and that one of the previous posts will resolve it.

That particular update was intended to invalidate pirated copies of window but i have heard that it has also effected legal copies.

I've been on the phone with Microsoft for a few hours over a similar issue with XP a few days ago. They actually were very helpful. It just took forever.
