Just a little bit about my problem...I have a emachine that is a couple years old it runs windows 7. I was using it just fine yesterday with no problems. It froze up on me and wouldn't do anything at all. I tried to restart it...nothing happened. I eventually just turned the power off then right back on (I know that is not good to do) but at that point I didn't see any other option...anyhow it won't boot back up at all. It goes to a black screen with the big e (emachines) at the bottom of that is says "press del to enter setup...or F12 boot menu." If I hit F12 it takes me to a black screen that says: reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. If I hit "del to enter set up" it takes me to a blue screen that says CMOS Setup Utility (then under that there are other options to go to..product information...Standard CMOS Features...Advanced BIOS Features and several other options. I have no clue as to what to do from there. I do have cd's that I made when I first got the computer.. (one is labeled windows 7-64 bit...there is 3 different ones labeled Recovery 1, 2 and 3 .. one is labled Repair disk and one is lableled App Dvr 1) I have tried to put these in and when the recovery options come up it says windows cannot automatically repair this computer. There is other options for me to load and select drivers but like I said before I have no computer knowledge at all.
If anyone could help me I sure would apprieciate it...All my pictures are on my computer of my baby (dog) that just passed away Sept 12 of this year and it devastates me to think I may never get them back. I don't care about anything else on the computer just my pictures.
    Thank you

Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan. There will be two options to choose from. One if you do not have your Windows 7 boot DVD and another when you have your DVD.

For x32 (x86) bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Option1: Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.

Option2: Enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc:

    • Insert the installation disc.
    • Restart your computer.
    • If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
    • Click Repair your computer.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account and click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)

Hello and Thank you so very much for taking the time to try and help me. Let me start by telling you I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to fixing a computer so please bare with me. I'm not sure if I have a bootable cd or not. When I first got the computer I had to make cd's...and when making them it told what to write on the cd's for later use. I have labeled...Windows 7-64 bit, I have 3 different cd's labeled recovery 1, 2 and 3...I have one labeled App Dvr1 and one labeled system repair disk. Can you tell me if one of those is the installation disk you had mentioned. I do know that I was able to get to the system recovery options with the repair disk. I did try to automatically repair but the computer said it was unable to automatically repair. Also the F8 key won't work unless there is a disk in the tower...I was able to go there but after getting there I am unsure what to do. I am afraid to do to much I am scared to death my pictures are gonna get erased.
Thank you so much for your help
    Jennifer

What options do you have once you get into F8?

Well first of all the only way I am even able to go the F8 screen is with the repair disk that I had created in the computer. (I don't know if that makes a difference or not...just wanted to let you know) anyhow I have the F8 up now it says:

Choose Advanced options for :Windows setup
Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice.

    Safe Mode
    Safe mode with networking
    safe mode with command prompt

    Enable boot logging
    enable low-resolution video (640x480)
    last known good configuarattion (advanced)
    directory services restore mode
    debugging mode
disable automatic restart on system failure
    disable driver signature enforcement

    start windows normally

You will need an install disc. I suggest you contact your manufacturer and request an install disc. They should send you one with minimal charge.
