    I have a retail Windows 7 disc.
Upgrade advisor tells me everything should be fine.
i put in the Windows 7 installer, double click setup.exe
and i get the error message : D:\setup.exe is not a valid win32 application.

    Lovely.
    Any ideas ?

Question, did you buy the 64bit version, or are you running 64 bit, and are attempting to use the 32 bit upgrade?

What are you upgrading from? Have you tried booting from that disc?

Ya, change the boot order in BIOS to boot from the DVD drive but it won't be an upgrade if what the thefool says is right about 32/64 bit. You'll have to format and install or make a dual boot.

yeah i got it. changed BIOS to boot from DVD. im now running windows 7, 64 bit.
Any suggestions on a firewall that will work with windows 7 ? I tried Zone Alarm and it would not install .

Well, 7 installed smoothly and easily. Performance is obviously faster than Vista was on this same machine .
I do have a question, though, I have an MSI DKA790GX mobo, with AMD Phenom 2 x4 3.0 Ghz .
None of my apps, including the OS built-in System info recognizes my processor. I dont have any trouble running things, but any diagnostic stuff i run tells me my processor is not recognized. Is this a mobo driver issue ?
I hate to go screwing around with something as critical as my mobo driver unless i have to, and im sure i know what im doing .

Are all are your drivers installed?

You can check device manager. I still have the bad habit, even in win7: Click START, then RUN, then type in: devmgmt.msc press enter.

Yeah, all my drivers are installed. Device manage reflects this as well . i guess ill check the MSI site for driver updates, once i get my windows 7 computer back online. Something has happened that is preventing it from getting internet access. Im on a different computer right now .

No solution at the MSI website. Oh well, everything works fine. I'll just leave it alone .
    thnx !
