Recently I noticed that when i boot up Windows 8 and i get into my desktop it plays the windows login sound and then right after it plays the "Hardware Insert" Windows 8 sound. I don't know why it plays that sound everytime i boot up into Windows 8. it didn't do that before. i checked my usb connections and the only things i have connected are my printer and my mouse. but they were always connected and i never heard this sound play before with them connected already. Is it possible windows 8 is loading something malicious? i am gonna run a virus scan with Malware Bytes and Kaspersky in safe mode right now. Does anyone know anything about this problem? please let me know what can be done. thanks!

    Hi

Yes good thought to run security scans and actually the safe mode bit is good direction also as that may help narrow the cause down as 3rd party startups do not load is safe mode, so if you do not get the same "hardware insert" sound then you can start looking at your startup list for a cause.

use msconfig and disable all and reboot, if no sound then enable one at a time and reboot to find the cause.

Check Device Manager for any yellow ! marks and if you have any what are they next too as a errant driver could cause this.

Have you installed anything new just before this happened and if so what?

Or, disconnect the printer. Reboot. Does the "hardware insert" sound again? If not, connect the printer and do the same with the mouse.

Essentially, you need to narrow down what is causing the issue. One step at a time.

    hey guys

ran the scan and nothing came up. it seems that a app that was running the startup caused this. Logitech Wingman Event Monitor, a app for my logitech gamepad. apparently other people who have this gamepad reported the same problem with windows 8. i haven't come across a solution tho. but with it disabled it doesn't bring up the "hardware insert" sound. could Java or Silverlight update conflict with this app to make this sound? i updated both of those earlier today and that's when i rebooted and noticed the sound. it could be a coincidence cause i keep my computer on a lot. device manager didn't have any yellow ! marks.

P.S. i haven't hooked up to usb the logitech gamepad in a while so the reason for this problem to occur is beyond me.
