A Milestone 3 version of Windows 8 leaked publicly on Saturday. The build is currently being distributed on FTPs and file sharing sites after an anonymous leakster posted the bits to the win7vista site.

6.2.7989.0.amd64fre.winmain.110421-1825 includes a new wallpaper and unlockable UI bits with the usual red pill trick. It’s not yet clear whether the build includes Microsoft’s new Start Screen interface. Microsoft has also updated the bootscreen to include a betta fish, similar to the one used in Windows 7 beta builds.

Microsoft revealed its new Windows 8 user interface during the All Things Digital D9 conference recently. Windows chief Steven Sinofsky detailed the company’s future plans for Windows and revealed that the firm plans to speak more about Windows 8 at the BUILD conference in September. Windows 8 includes a new user interface which takes elements from the company’s Windows Phone 7 software. Microsoft will allow users to launch apps from a tile-based start screen, which replaces the traditional Windows Start menu. Applications include live tile notifications and fluid, natural switching between applications. Microsoft has also built in the ability to snap and resize an application to the side of the screen and multitask outside of the new touch UI. The new applications will be web powered apps built using HTML5 and JavaScript, with full access to the power of the PC. Microsoft is positioning Internet Explorer 10 at the heart of the Windows 8 app experience.

Personally, I wonder how many users will leap quickly from Win 7 to Win 8?
It will take a great leap forward to convert many W7 users to W8, IMO
What are your thoughts?

I believe people will just get it for the sake of getting it and others will get it only when they hear good things about it.

I'm not touching it until it's beta as there's always issues that I no longer have patience for. As to adopting it, I probably will though there's absolutely no reason for me to abandon W7. I'll probably know after the public beta if they have one.

I made the mistake of jumping straight into Vista and regretted it until windows 7 but now i am a happy bunny with 7 so i doubt i will change until it has proved to be as good or better than 7.

Bill, I agree completely with your views (and of others).:major
I think I read that MS said that they will have a hard sell of Win 8, from happy users of Win. 7
