    Hi,

I bought windows 8 some time ago for my new PC. Although it doesn't say it on the pack, I thought it was an upgrade version, and I needed to have Win 7 or Vista.
My new PC has no operating system and before I went ahead, I wanted to find out if the Win 8 disk will run from booting up, despite having no OS.

Looking at my upgrade disk it does say down at the bottom, in fine print, "Upgrade eligibility requirements apply". If that's what you have then obviously you need a qualifying OS already installed or it won't install.

you can run windows 8 from boot up but you need the full disc not the upgrade version in which case needs a os already on the comp.

    hope this helps
