should I save their resulting list of files, etc permanently deleted or removed by CCleaner ??

trend micro didn't work again---am up to about 7,000,000 bytes received

did run CCleaner another time---very fast cleaning---can't save what they removed the first time, even if I wanted to---did not click for updates,
as already, yesterday, clicked or checkmarked "automatis updates"

kadavill---have not clicked on your NASA links---NASA doesn't pay much either---the lawyers I know (or many of them) make "big bucks", and, for example, one can "bet their bippy" they'll never be any (or a significant amount of) "outsourcing" re "lawyering"

 

Alright then, skip TrendMicro and lets go to Symantec Security Check Click on Start under Virus Detection, Norton will want to install ActiveX controls, click on Install both times.

on the 3rd or 4th try the Trend Micro "Housecall" (and some "update
engine and pattern file") downloaded---immediately prior to that 4th or so attempt I defragged (took hours), as I couldn't even get online with NetZero for a couple of hours, so, I figured defragging might help

total scanned XXX (numbers of files & increasing) infected files XXX

las time I looked it had scanned about 56,000 files & had found no infected files

hit the sacvk, and when I woke up resources had dropped, again, to about point 01 percent, and I couldn't move
the "warning" window from in front of the gray report thing (so didn't know
how big the scanned files number got)---ie this PC froze---so, turned
the PC off (and not via start, and not via alt+control+delete)

when I turned the PC on, even before the icons on the PC came on, a report begann "rolling" called "TSG damage cleanup engine"

and "on and on and on" "rolled" stuff like

executing trojan XYZ
executing worm ---robot---pattern
etc
etc
etc


for hundreds or thousands of "rolling stuff" and the above in white printing, on a black background

got tired of looking at it, so exited or "clicked it off"

nothing appears to have been permanently damaged re this PC, but
unless I can "temporarily" disable, say, McAfee stuff, I doubt I'll be ever able to complete any Trend Micro scan---PLUS Trend Micro might have some bugs ?? ie what does "damage cleanup engine" mean ?? THEIR cleanup engine is "damaged" ??

That is the Damage Control Service from TrendMicro Cleaning up after itself and any leftovers from Viruses it may have found and remove.

I am really concered about the the loss of your system resources. I am thinking that McAfee is the culprit.

 

I'm back (12:10 PM)

but I cannot even learn what Trend Micro has found, seeing as I'm "advised", by Memokit, that my resources are getting "real low", and that notification comes up in a BIG "box" which blocks me from reading what Trend Micro has done (or is doing)

Macfee's stuff have never reduced my resources to below more than, say, 52% "available"--the dropping down to, say, "point 01 percent" or even say 25%, came about after I had/have used (??) the programs which were
frecently installed to "ferret out", and/or destroy (??), trojans. viruses, etc

well, can I TEMPORARILY "disable" all McAfee programs ?? such that they,
TEMPORARILY, don't consume ANY resources, or at least reduce the consumption of SOME resources ?? I assume PERMANENT uninstall
of ANY existing McAfee programs is something I do not want

Another point, and I don't know what caused it, in the past two (2) "sign
ons", or "booting ups", no large McAfee icon (and LARGE box) comes up on
my desktop desktop PC temporarily---in other words, such a LARGE icon (and large "box") used to come up for about two (2) seconds BEFORE
my small folder icons (on the desktop, of my desktop PC) came up---after that two (2) seconds, or thereabouts, that LARGE McAfee icon (and large "box") would disappear

in the latest (or most recent) case of the resources dropping to an enormous degree, I suspect (don't know) that was due to "running" Trend Micro

Perhaps (don't know) installing, and running, Symantec Security Check won't consume too many resources, and would do "almost as good a job" as Trend Micro ???

names to look for (re say Google searches ??) concerning "seminal" SCRAMJETR work (and "seminal" CFD work) are (at least) Paul Libby, Roberto Vaglio-Laurin, Antonio Ferri, Walt Daskin, Bob Byrne, Lou Feldman, Harold Rosenbaum, Harry Gould, Gino Morreti (or Moretti), Martin Hoffert, Sy Zyberg, Ray Edeleman, Ernie (or Earnest) Sanlorenzo, and some guy named Martilucci (spelling ??)--my true name is none of those people

one can peruse issues of the "AIAA Journal" (over say 1963 to say 1975) and see publicly published work of all, or some of, thodse people
---also, (re the "AIAA Journal", and web searching, one can "search" re General Applied Science Laboratories (re "the era" say 1963 to say 1975)

the physics "phenomena" (spelling ??) is a lot more complicated, re SCRAMJETs, than has been disclosed in any NASA photo

 

That large icon is just a startup screen, if your icons are in the system tray then McAfee started correctly.

Do CTRL+ALT+DEL, select Exec, click on End Task.
Next select Memokit, click on End Task. Close the Task Manager.

Now try to run the TrendMicro Online Scan

both "late players", or fairly recent "players", in the computational CAE (computer aided, or computer assisted, engineering) "space"---they both have web sites

shoot, nobody, today, if they know what they are "doing", doesn't use computers in engineering, nor "goes back" to slide rules and/or to desk calculators---hmm --"a triple negative" ???

 

memokit.exe "consumes" about 556k of (??) RAM (??)---that's "peanuts" in the "RAM consumption department" relative to the OTHER "RAM consumption stuff"

Yes, the program itself may be small, but as it checks the state of your memory, it may not be releasing the system rescources. Therefore consuming free RAM space. I want to rule it out as the cause of your 'Low System Resources'.

 

With 512Mb of memory you shouldn't be having system resource issues.

Something is using up the system RAM, and not releasing it back for use by the computer. Windows 98 is horrible when it comes to memory management, and I have found that most memory managers aren't very effect, and some of them actually compound the problem.

 

botom line---you suggest I uninstall memokit ??

Yes 'End Task' is similar to exiting a program. When you exit a program it doesn't always exit all the running processes. By doing 'End Task' from the 'Task Manager' it stops and exits the running process.

In short we a forcing a program to close.

this, in part, is what happened

scan started at 2:25 PM, at that time duration was 2 hours, 15 minutes (had been online since around noon), and "prior" bytes received was about 6,400,000

scan stopped at 4:12 PM, and 120,000 files were scanned (far fewer than the some 300,000 to 400,000 scanned yesterday by CCleaner)

during the scan I remained online (most of the time)---at about 3:29 PM I received a warning about (about to be disconnected----inactivity)
--so, brought up an ad

the start button went blank (white) at about 4:08 PM---109,200
files scanned at that point---"session ove" (said NetZero)---Trend Micro
kept on scanning---couldn't bring up/determine (nor see a "blinking" computer icon, lower right hand corner, where I could "right click" for "statuds", ei couldn't determine, via that, duration, nor bytes received

4:12 PM---message from Trend Micro "Congratulations--no viruses (etc ??) found"---that was after they had scanned 120,057 files---don't know why
Trend Micro only scanned 120,057 files, rather than the 300,000 or so files scanned by CCleaner

hit, then, after the Trend Micro scan, alt-+control+delete, to re-boot this PC
---and, for some reason, the large McAfee icon (big box) came up again, plus memokit came up again, both after the "re-boot"

 

and near the end (shortly before was finished) of the Trend Micro scan I
"dug out" (via systems information, and then via "systems resources free")
what the resources were, at that instant in time (or thereabout)---was 36%., and not "point 01 percent"

and Exec "came up", again, after re-booting and checking using alt+control+delete

TrendMicro is only scanning file extensions commonly associated with viruses, hence the 120,000 or so files.

We only force stopped the processes. When you rebooted they restarted at sytem startup.

CTRL+ALT+DEL, End Task both Memokit and Exec.

Now run the Symantec Security Check Click on Start under Virus Detection, Norton will want to install ActiveX controls, click on Install both times.

Scan should start.

techniques, make use of large matrices (and much "looping" to get convergence---re matching boundary conditions within, or at the border of, the "grids" or "meshes")---one "picks it up" (the knowledge) thru experience
("on the job" experience) and/or thru formal education---very specialized stuff, and very important stuff--otherwise one "spins wheels" thru time consuming (and expensive) experimentation ie "hey, let's try this, and if that doesn't work, then try this"---even the auto industry became, eventually, "hep and in step" with some technological tools developed within the aerospace industry
