Windows 98 issue

    I'm trying to repair a computer that has windows 98. The user wanted AOL removed but after removal and a reboot a DESKBAR.DLL error pops up. When I click close it freezes right there and won't let me go any further or access anything. Can anyone help me fix this issue or do I need to do a complete format and reinstall?     deskbar.dll is known to be malware.

    Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    Chaslang,

    I would follow the instructions you sent me but I can't even get past the error. After boot, I bypass the logon, the error pops up and then I am frozen right there. Ctrl + Alt + delete won't even do me any good. I can't even to a right click. Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you for the info provided and any further assistance you can lend.

    Can you login in safe mode?

    Also why are you bypassing the logon?
    Try logging in.
    Try another user account.
    Try creating a new user account and then login to this account.

    You may have more problems than Deskbar.

    No I can not log on in safe mode. The only issue appears to be the deskbar.

    How would you know since you cannot boot? Deskbar could just be the only thing you are seeing.

    Did you try the other things I suggested?

    You could be looking at a reinstall.
