I don't know all the details on this. But a buddy called me a while ago and said he bought a used laptop (don't know the brand or model) that has Win98 on it. He said he did an install of XP, but it runs 98 on reboot. I tried to get him to format the drive to do a fresh install, but it would not let him. I told it sounded like an embedded OS. Anyone have any ideas what's causing this?

Sounds like he didn't install XP, or did a dual installation! You should talk to your buddy and get more information. :)

I have a lap top that boots to either win 2k or xp. The problem was when I installed the new OS the computer without my help (I think) partitioned my drive and set up an optional boot. If he doesn't want or have anything important on the drive he can wipe it and do a fresh install.

His laptop only has 128MB of RAM. I think that's part of his problem. He's using it for data entry only, so he's going to find a printer that will work with Win98.
