Hi, my friend has Windows XP service pack 2 and I need to run the repair console because of some corrupt files.

However, it prompts me for an admin password, which he says he never set. He doesnt havea sign in screen.

    Is there a default password?

Sorry if this is a really newb question, just has never come up for me before!

    Cheers,

    Kiwi

If he has never setup a password, then just press enter and it should go on to C:\WINDOWS

If the above doesnt work, if you can manage to get into normal or safe mode, click START > RUN > type in REGEDIT

    Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole

Double-click on the option SECURITYLEVEL in the right-hand column and change the Value Data number to 1 then press OK

Exit and reboot into the recovery console, problem should be resolved.
