My dad just got a new PC for his small business. He has it all set up, but does not have internet access. It has windows XP, and he needs to do the activation thing. He isnt the best with computers...it actually kinda hurts when i see him there tryin to figure out how to do simple stuff. :( :p Is there any way to disable the activation thing or does he just need to call it in? Im tryin to save him some stress here :\ Thanks for any help

Make sure the pen has plenty of ink in it. Those numbers never seem to stop.

If he formats he will have to ring again as those numbers won't work a second time.........didn't for me anyways.

I can understand why they are doing it but I have to say it is the most annoying call to make.

I hate having to call Mr Microsoft to ask permission to use the software he has already sold to me.

THere must be a better way

You din't buy the software, you bought the license to use it.

BTW, how long is the wait on the phone usually, I have never called MS, so I would gather that it could be a long wait?

You right, I just wish we did not have to say can we use your software pretty please sugar on top everytime there is a change to the system.

Last time I called, the rep asked me why did I have to install the software again. I wanted to tell him none of your damn business. I bought the licence what's the problem.

In reality I installed a new hardrive and a dvd burner. Sure enough windows wanted to be activated again.

Everytime I think of this agravation I think of going to Lindows or something similar.

I got mine straight away by way of a recorded message. Didn't talk to a 'real' person.

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

You only get bumped to a real person if you've re-activated the same software too many times. Something like 5 times, I believe. Which should only happen if you re-install a LOT. Including me. :D I've had to re-do it by phone 3 times now, and it's no big deal. They DO ask you why, but when you tell them you're a geek that upgrades/reinstalls a lot, they don't give you any flak. Twice I waited ~ 5 minutes, once I waited over a half hour, and the guy immediately apologized for the delay, saying more than half the office was out sick. Process is tedious (LONG strings of numbers), but broken up in small groups, and not hard at all. Even Mr. Wolf's Dad won't have any problems with it. They don't say goodby until your successfully activated.
