I am trying to clean out my C Drive. I have found (using Search) a large number of Windows CAB files hanging around.

I would like to move them all to an external hard drive, in case they are needed later.

    Is this OK?
Should I keep their "Path" info, if Windows needs them again?

    Thanks
    Tom

    Hi

    Which Windows version?

And what is the path to the CABs? will give me some valuable info into if they can be deleted without any issue.

While some could be moved to a different drive or CD/DVD as they are backups of many components to Windows in case you have issues and need to restore a file, some are needed.

majority of cab files are in c:\i386
c:\Program Files has a ton \sub files below
    \Install Shield a lot
\microsoft! digital media edition has one file 4,675kb
    \Windows \Driver Cache\i386 (biggest ones below)
    Driver CAB 61,368 kb
    SP2 CAB 18,300kb

    (wasn't finished)
    SP3 cab 23,294 kb
    \Windows service pack files -- huge 125,xxxkb
    \MSECache\O2007 cnv\1033 27,308kb
    \Adobe Reader 9 \setup 105,xxxkb

I have an external hard drive - so I can move back and forth from C: to G: fairly easily - just need to power up G:

Someone told me that some times XP will decompress a cab and grab something on the fly - is this correct?
