They need to take a few dollars from their "Trustworthy Computing" initiative and hire a marketing expert.

    Or maybe not. :D

well, I think it's better than "longhorn"

When I first heard that name I thought maybe they were marketing to Texas :p

Considering how long it's been in development, and still waiting, maybe they should just call it "LongTime"

I got the latest PC World magazine yestarday and it previewed some of the features in "Longhorn" and, I have to say, it looks stupid. It didn't sound like an improvement on Windows XP, just a lot of Window dressing. ;)

3D desktop - so what. An extra toolbar on the side of the screen - so what. The new, and much needed, search function is okay but I don't really search all that much on my own machine.

Went off on a little bit of a rant there. Sorry. The name sucks. Code name and all.

Do you reckon you lot will all upgrade to it?
The features look alright, but I wonder if it gives the same results as XP..
I suppose everyone will eventually upgrade to it one day though.

And did I hear rightly that in April SP2 will be installed on your system no matter what?

Mmmm.... rumours have a strange way of becoming true, I did think this was an early April1st joke from MS but with further reading it may not be.

but then we will find out once April 12th is upon us :D

Yeah... there is only so much you can get from looking at screenshots. I couldn't care less what it looks like because chances are I'll change that within the hour of upgrading.

If they have made it less dependant on IE, made that new filesystem, improved hardware support, added more security to prevent intrusions: then I'll be happy!

Whats funny is, the mag is previewing an alpha

For those of us who tried the Whistler alpha, looked how different the end product ended up.

MS is cutting the major features of LH. From CNET

It seems rather futile on their part to release LH without WINFS. I won't "upgrade" :( though there will be a new Alpha to play around with on April 25th or so. :)

Dont care, last I heard, they have decided to leave the new filesystem out of it, so theres a ghood chance ill hang with XP for a while.

To be honest, I like my WinXP :D

I have the latest build of Longhorn and I just want to keep my XP which I think I will do for a while. :D Main reason, I fear change..hehe

I think eventually everyone will switch to it, like to main transfer from 98/2000 to xp. I think I might stick with xp for as long as possible though.

I probably wont switch and I haven't tried any of the longhorn alphas because I heard it was a HUGE resource hog.

It is a resource hog, I recommend running Longhorn with 512+ RAM for it to run fairly decent.
