I hope I'm posting in the right category... sorry if I'm not.

Anyway, I've been having this issue with Windows Defender for a few days now and can't seem to find any kind of solution. Every time I turn on my computer and it loads my desktop (I'm using 32 bit Vista), I get an error message that says "Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this program's service to stop."

I've looked at many forums and I guess a lot of people have had this problem, but every suggestion I read doesn't help. People keep saying to "just uninstall it and then reinstall it!"... but I can't figure out how. They either say to go to Control Panel and then Add/Remove a program, but the program isn't listed there, or they say to load up Windows Defender itself and deactivate it in the options, but I can't do that either because every time I try to load the program I get an error message saying it's screwed up or something. I tried to just re-install it without uninstalling it but that doesn't work because when I double click the setup icon, it says "you do not need to install this because Vista automatically comes with this program".

Is there nothing I can do? I mean... I guess it's not THAT big of a deal to just click okay whenever I turn my computer on but it's getting really annoying now and I don't know what else to do.

Yes that was one of the forums I previously visited, and I wasn't able to find a solution in that.

The 1st suggestion had me to go the remove/add program list via the run command, but Windows Defender doesn't show up on there so I couldn't delete it.

The 2nd suggestion I didn't really understand because it told me to run the Windows Installer CleanUp. I did install that program and when I tried to run it I didn't understand what I was supposed to do (any help on how to use it would be appreciated).

The 3rd suggestion just had me enter a bunch of run commands, which I did, and most of them ended up displaying an error popup saying something like "The module was loaded but call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005." or "The module failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specific path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files." Course, I have no clue what a binary file is... or what either of those error codes mean so all I could do was click okay and not really accomplish anything.

    Hope it helps.

No I hadn't seen that forum post before and the suggestion fixed the issue! Thank you so much for linking it, it's nice to not have it giving me error messages anymore :)
