Windows - Delayed Write Failed error message comes up everytime I try to play a game, When I was installing the games it would come up and it wouldnt install but i managed to install call of duty 2 and get it working, I started the first level but then it started lagging then it froze. I managed to get to my desktop and shut it down then the message appeared at the bottom right hand corner! This keeps coming up every time I try to install a game or paly one and its getting very frustrating, any ideas guys?

    My PC specs are:

Microsoft windows XP Media center edition
    service pack 2
    AMD Athlon 62 X2 Dual
    Core processer 4200+
    nVidea Gforce 7800GT
    2.22 GHz
    2 GB RAM

    Thanks :)

Do a chkdsk /r on your hard disk.

If the chkdsk doesnt turn up any evidence of hardware malfunction, check all your system fans and make sure they are working.

Delayed write failed is a hardware issue, either caused by a hardware fault, or by overheating causing a temporary hardware fault. I've had both scenarios happen to me, so hope its just the latter, and make sure your system cooling is sufficient.

In either case, its a good idea to try to backup any important data on the drive now.

I occasionally come across this problem, often in computers with several hard drives. What usually happens is one drive will bring up this error, and become offline. A restart of the machine tends to temporarily solve the problem, however the problem returns after the computer has been running for a while. Sometimes a drive will disappear altogether, leading to suspicions that it has failed. Connecting it to another computer proves it's ok.

How many hard drives / volumes are there on your computer ?
After checking the obvious things like connections between them and the mother board / IDE controller, and in the case of any IDE drives, making sure they're jumpered correctly, physically removing them from a computer and then putting them back in (non OS drives) sometimes sorts them out.

Start > Run > Type "cmd" > then type "chkdsk /r" in the command prompt window :)

It will say something about the drive being locked and ask you if you want to do a scan at on the next restart, press Y for yes then reboot.

The scan might take some time, so grab a cuppa and have a read of the paper or something :)

Right, I have done the chkdsk /r thing and checked all my fans (working fine) installed CoD 2 again fine then started playing, after 5 minutes same problem happend, so I'm still getting the error message and it freezes! My hard disk is 300GB, just the one. Thanks.
