Windows dual boot problem windows xp and win 7

Hi im hoping some one can help me after hours of searching and finding no answer,
I have two hard drives one ide one sata, on the ide hard drive is windows 7 and on my sata hard drive i just installed windows xp, the idea behind this was so i could use old programs that wont work on windows 7 on the xp instalation.
since i installed xp on the sata hd it will only boot on xp, with no option to choose windows 7 on the ide hard drive.
I have tried going to the boot menu but it only shows the sata hard drive with xp on it so i cant choose the ide hard drive as my primary boot device.
i have looked through the posts on here and found nothing thats specific to my problem.
Any help would be so good thank you...

I'm not sure how the SATA/IDE drives figure into the situation. Did you have both drives installed when you were running just Win7?

There could be problems following any procedure so I would guess you have the XP installation disc. Do you have the Win7 installation disc or if not have you created a repair disc that would let you work with Win7's bootloader?

This guide starting at #2 should work but I would have a Win repair disc first in case there is a problem. Can you get into Win7 if you disconnect the SATA drive? If so then you can type repair disc in the Start/Search box and it should list the Create a System Repair disc option at the top of the list of results. You can burn it to CD or DVD, in case you run into problems.
