Hello im Ian and i have a problem (not a drinking problem :p)

Today i encoutered the virus Smithfraud wich turned my computer in a popup maniac creating shortcuts on the desktop, and even sets the words VIRUS ALERT! next to my clock.I fixed the virus but now i got an other problem my explorer closes, opens, closes, opens non stop.I have Windows XP SP 2 home edition.I tried everything to fix this problem because i really dont want to format my pc (if i really must i will use a backup-program).
I tried CHDSK,i tried to add explorer.exe to the DEP service, i tried to fix it with windows repair 2007,spyware doctor, avg, counter spy and zone-alarm, i checked my boot procces at msconfig, i tried system recovery (wich remarkebly did not help) and then i tried ComboFix.exe wich helped for an hour or so but after the hour my explorer was closing and opening again. When the explorer closes and opens i hear a *pop* sound, the same sound when you plug a device in, in the bottom right of my screen i have a security-alerts windows sign (the red sign with the white cross) but i turned firewall and automatic updates off at the control panel, but if i click on the icon at the bottom righ it says that they are on, wich is strange because it doesnt look like spyware or something.
So im really desperate for help here i hope one of you guys got the perfect solution for this, all suggestions are welcome.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

As you likely already know is that malware is a massive pest these days and does its level best to hide itself in any number of places, So just a Hijackthis log will not show all the malware that can be on your PC, the full guide of our steps below has a few other logs that show alot of the malware on your PC and where they are located,

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

No problem! ;) Just attach the logs when you finish. I see it has been a few days. Are you having problems following the instructions or is everything okay now?
